Dry brushing is exactly what it sounds like – brushing the skin while it is dry. Dry brushing is a simple, fast, inexpensive and easy way to detoxify your body. Our body is constantly detoxifying. The skin is the largest organ and the barrier between the onutside world and our inner selves. Removing dead cells rejuvenates the skin and allows the toxins to exit the body.
Perks of dry brushing:
- Exfoliates the skin of dead cells and toxins
- Stimulates the lymphatic system
- This helps the body to naturally detox and purify
- Increases blood circulation
- Reduces and prevents cellulite
- Relieves stress
- Improves digestion and kidney function
- Invigorating: Increases energy and blood flow
How to Dry Brush:
- Can be done daily once or twice, preferably in the morning before showering. It usually takes about 4 to 5 minutes
- Start with your feet. Rotate the brush in a circular motion toward your heart. Work your way up your legs
- Once you get to your stomach, rub your brush in circular motions from right to left – this is the direction of the intestine. Make sure you spend at least 30 seconds on your stomach because our abdomen holds 60-70% of our lymphatic tissue
- While doing your chest area, pay extra attention to your breasts. Dry brush in circular motions around your nipples toward your arm pit (make sure you do not dry brush your nipples)
- Do your back as well, and remember to make sure that your motions are towards your heart
- Next, dry brush your arms the same way you did your legs. Make sure you spend at least 30 seconds around our left armpit because 75% of your lymphatic fluids are drained there
- Dry brush your neck; but only do your face if you have the special dry brush specific for it
- So, remember to cover every inch of your skin; long circular motion strokes toward your heart; pay extra attention at your lymph nodes, which are the back of your knees, inside of the elbows, armpits, stomach, and center of the neck.
Choosing a Dry Brush:
- The brush should be made of natural fibers
- The bristles should be firm
- Should be able to reach your back
